Mother's Day

LITERACY

Children are coloring a black and white mother in the bubble bath which will be attached with ribbon to the bath salts we are making for their Mother's Day gifts.

The poem says:
Here's a gift for Mother's Day.
I'll try my best in every way.
But if you get upset with me,
Relax and soak! Don't you agree?

Bath Salt Recipe
Here's a simple recipe that uses epsom salts:
Ingredients: 2 1/2 lb epsom salts, food coloring, perfume
Method:
In a large bowl, mix epsom salts with food coloring and perfume. Mix until the color is spread out evenly. Put into smaller jars and let stand 4-6 weeks before using so that the perfume can absorb full into the salts.

We took each child's picture (girls wore a shower cap). Then cut it out and fitted it into the top of a small mason jar. Poured the bath salts into the mason jar and finished it off with a ribbon. Very cute.

We are hosting a Mother's Day picnic where the moms bring in blankets and lunches for themselves and their child. The entire school participates and we all eat in the community center. After lunch each class sings Mother Day songs. Here the children are decorating the bag that will carry everything to the picnic.

Our Mother's Day picnic was a blast!

Another Mother's Day gift. Breakfast in Bed! We cut rectangle shapes out of material scraps and white felt. The we drew a picture of our mother's face (with hair) and cut it out. On a lunch bag we glued the flannel piece to make the bed covers, the white felt for a pillow and then glued on mom's face. Inside the bag was a breakfast bar. The back of the bag had this poem.
