We are counting down till our last day of school and Christmas party. The poem on the star is:
From Dec. 1st to Christmas holidays
Is the longest time of year.
Seems as though holidays will never appear.
How many days till Christmas is hard to count.
So this little paper chain will tell you the exact amount.
Take off a link everyday
It isn't very hard
Christmas holidays will begin
When you reach the star!
We estimated the number of peppermint candies in a cup.
We made tree toppers.
We wrote our names and numbers in "snow" (salt).
We used holiday stamps to make wrapping paper.
We used red and white beads to make candy canes
December quilt
We made reindeers by folding brown construction paper, cutting a U shape out of bottom, cutting a triangle and coloring eyes, glue a red pompom nose and pretzels for antlers.
These reindeers all look strong and agile enough to pull Santa's sleigh!
Working with tanagram shapes to make a Christmas tree. Allison has taken it further by adding a house. Claire is being a "watcher" (hands behind back waiting quietly for turn).
Using a yellow sponge cleaner on a stick (the kind used for cleaning dishes) we dipped the sponges into green, then white, the dark green and stamped the paper in a circle. We sprinkled red dots from hole punching for berries and finished it off with a pipe cleaner bow.
We charted where we got our Christmas tree from- attic, store, or cut it down.
The children are easily identifying most and least now.
We made ornaments using gumdrops poked into toothpicks which were then inserted into the styrofoam balls. The temptation to eat the gum drops was fierce. I believe half made it into their mouths!
We are working hard on recognizing our color words.
We retold the Christmas story using our flannel board.
Santa pop-up. Santa pops in and out of chimney
Wreaths - I got this idea from Green Gables Elem website. She has detailed instructions on how to make it. I had to tweak it a little for my 4 year olds but it still was a fun project with lovely results.
Making the card which will go on the Christmas gift (hand print calendars) to our parents.
We made Rudolph sandwiches for a late afternoon snack. These were yummy!
